"Let's Talk" Monthly Awareness Issue

The goal of Let's Talk is to normalize talking about suicide, to keep the message of Suicide Awareness and Prevention in the media eye, and to Break the Silence around mental health using different issues and perspectives.

We're looking for a Council or Task Group member or a local you know with lived experience of the issue's relationship to suicidality, to do the following:

Fact Sheet

Develop a Fact Sheet on the subject to include with the press release. Click on the awareness month on our home page to find a lot of background information and facts on each awareness month as it relates to suicide. (See https://bit.ly/33AnGBw)

Print Media

Write a article (up to 500 words) and/or letter-to-the-editor (up to 300 words), to include the name and month of the Awareness issue and how it relates to suicidality. .Include your lived experience with the issue.

Insider of Southern Oregon

Write an article/press release up to 500 words and attach it in PDF format, if possible, and email to captaincurry541@gmail.com Deadline is the 15th of the month preceding but earlier would be better. One person take the lead on this is multiple people are acting on this subject.

Curry County Reporter and Port Orford News The deadline is noon on the Friday before the first Wednesday in the month of your awareness issue. Note to Matt Hall, the publisher, that the letter is for both papers. Send to: currycountyreporter@gmail.com.

Citizen's Comment

Speak at the Curry County Board of Commission's Regular business meeting on Wednesday, usually at 9 am. Ideally speak at the meeting prior to the Awareness month.

Fill out a request form found in the door of the chambers to make a citizen's comment of up to 3 minutes and give it to John (JJ) Jezuit before the start of the meeting. Ideally include your own lived experience concerning the issue.

3 minute - A normal speaking rate is 130 words per minute The general rule for speech giving is 100 to 200 words per minute.

Radio

1. Write a very short Who, What, Why, Where, When on the issue and send it to Kelly at (kelly@bicoasta.media) with a copy of the fact sheet and article/letter-to-the-editor as resource information. She will develop PSA's and distribute to radio stations.

2. 3 to 5 minute live and recorded interviews on air.

a. Phone interview with Bill Bailey at KGBR Gold Beach. which would be run a number of times during the month. Note :It may not happen since he has been having issues but make an attempt anyway. pdbill@kgbr.com

b. Live phone interview on pertinent Bicoastal radio stations:
